E3 was not the only gaming Expo over the weekend.
Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo kicked off last weekend. In this Expo you can finally get to all those games you never had a quarter handy to play when you were younger. From Ms. Pac-Man to Mortal Combat 3, this Expo had just about every arcade game you can think of. Pinball games also were plentiful.
While E3 is showcasing all the upcoming games, better graphics and virtual reality, SFGE is completely the opposite. It celebrates the games of old and that’s a good thing. It takes you back to the days when all we had was a joy-stick and an A and B button. And that was all we needed. Now we have consoles with WiFi, backpacks equipped with PC components, and goggles strapped to our heads for VR.
Dont get me wrong, im in love with how far technology has come. There is just something so satisfying to look at the person next to you as you completely dismantle him with a finisher in Mortal Combat and then glance behind you to see who’s next to get a beat down. That is some of what SFGE brings.
The Expo also has pinball and console tournaments to keep everyone engaged. Prizes were given out to the player with the highest game. If you stroll outside the arcade room setup you will also find board games as well as card games. With arcade rooms moving towards extinction, this is truly an experience that true gamers will appreciate.
As Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo comes to an end, I can only imagine what they have in store for the event next year. While developers are searching for the next big thing, Its nice to know that you can find an Expo to appreciate how far we have come.
