2K announced that you can now expand your leagues from 32 to 36 active teams in NBA 2K17.
Each year, the NBA 2K developers start to leak out the new features of their award-winning game. This year will be no different, as Senior Producer of NBA 2K17, Erick Boenisch kicks things off with what’s new in MyGM and MyLEAGUE modes.
MyGM/ MyLEAGUE career modes will now allow you to expand your league by adding up to four expansion teams. The game will come with four stock teams that will include jerseys, arenas, logos and in-game commentary that fully supports the expansion team you choose.
Playing with the stock teams not your cup of tea? NBA 2K17 also allows you to create your own fully customizable expansion team. You can download your own team logo and customize your arena, jerseys, colors and more.
“Alternatively, you can now download complete team designs from the community in NBA 2K17. For example, if you know that you want your expansion team to be a Seattle Supersonics franchise, you can search through community uploaded team designs and instantly download one right into your new MyGM/MyLEAGUE. It couldn’t be simpler.”
Boenisch went on to explain that the MyGM/MyLEAGUE modes will also come with its own Expansion Draft. This is not to be confused with a Fantasy Draft. Fantasy Draft will add all players into a pot in which all teams would then draft their entire roster. Expansion Draft will have each team designate the players they would like to keep and the rest will be sent to a pot for the expansion teams to draft from.
“The entire experience surrounding the game has to support it”, says Boenisch. “We’ve covered every detail required for a proper league expansion, including player protections, expansion drafts, and much, much more. A considerable amount of time was spent this year building an NBA schedule creation tool that dynamically generates balanced schedules.”
This is a pretty huge announcement for MYLEAGUE and MyGM players. Its something that the 2K community has been wanting for a few years. This announcement ensures, even with all the success the franchise has had thru the last decade, the developers are still listening to their fans.
If everything holds true to form, the NBA 2K team will most likely release more insights to the upcoming release, and we will make sure to bring them to you here.
